Columbia University SIPA: The Plundering of Iraq's Oil Wealth

March 8th 2018 | 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

When the U.S. invaded Iraq in 2003, Iraqi Kurds hoped Western oil companies would bring them a better life. It hasn't worked out that way.

Investigative reporter Erin Banco (SIPA '15) will be joined by Prof. Anya Schiffrin, director of SIPA's Technology, Media, and Communications specialization, for a discussion of Banco's new book: Pipe Dreams: The Plundering of Iraq’s Oil Wealth.

“A fascinating and revealing dive into the murky world of oil contracts that shape power and politics in Iraq.” —Loveday Morris, The Washington Post

This event is free to attend with no reservation required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
