Why Is Nationalism Bigger Than Ever?
On the eve of the 2016 election, Columbia Global Reports published John B. Judis’s The Populist Explosion, which predicted a worldwide wave of populist sentiment, on the left and the right, in reaction to the disruptions caused by globalization. Two years later, the world is grappling with a fierce resurgence of "us vs. them" nationalism.
Now Judis has written a sequel: The Nationalist Revival, which takes his argument one step further, from politics into governance. A book meant to explain, and also to foment a discussion that we are not having yet. It is indispensable reading for people who want to understand the current moment.
Join Columbia and UC Berkeley alumni of Washington, DC to hear John B. Judis review Nationalism from its origins in the 1800s to today to find answers. A short discussion will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
