Columbia Global Reports invites you to join this exciting conversation.

Russian-American journalist Masha Gessen is an outspoken critic of Putin and Trump, and was just named one of the Five Most Important Intellectuals in America Today by The Washington Post. Her new book Never Remember with photos by Misha Friedman, commemorates those who died in the gulags and explains how Putin’s totalitarian state is whitewashing Russia’s past. Gessen will be in discussion with Hampshire College Professor of Russian Literature Polina Barskova. This is a can’t miss opportunity to hear one of the leading experts on Russia today speak about the importance of memory rooted in history and facts.

A haunting literary and visual journey deep into Russia’s past—and present.

"A book that belongs on the shelf alongside The Gulag Archipelago." —Kirkus Reviews

"A powerful meditation on contemporary Russia as seen through its relationship to the past.” —Publishers Weekly ★ starred review

"A short, haunting and beautifully written book."—Andrew Stuttaford, The Wall Street Journal

Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
